Accountancy Newsletter

Greeting from Accountancy Chair Rebecca Shortridge

Dr. Rebecca Shortridge

I am honored to share with you my first newsletter as the Donald E. Kieso Endowed Chair of Accountancy.

Much of our focus this past year was on program prioritization.  NIU evaluated all academic and administrative programs to ensure the judicious use of university resources. I am pleased to announce that our B.S. in Accountancy and Master of Accounting Science programs received the highest recommendation from NIU’s Academic Program Task Force, candidate for enhancement, and our Master of Science in Taxation program received the second highest recommendation.

We can trace two key factors in our rankings back to you. Your commitment to campus involvement by way of classroom visits, student organization presentations, and internship opportunities contributes to the achievement of our student learning outcomes. Furthermore, your continued financial support – through scholarships for our high-achieving students, professorships that support faculty development and research, and endowments that support the department’s legacy – helps us achieve our mission amidst uncertain financial times.

I am grateful to each of you and hope to have the opportunity to thank many of you in person over the next year.
